2 BEATRICIANS ARE CASUALTIES
PVT. WILLARD LEGATE KILLED ON DEC. 14; SGT. CLIFFORD JOHNSON MISSING
According to war department casualty notifications received over the weekend, Pvt. Willard E. Legate, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Legate, was killed and Sgt. Clifford R. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson, was listed as missing in action. The two servicement left Beatrice together in January, 1941 with Company C for military training.
Sgt. Clifford R. Johnson, 24, who returned to active duty with the 134th infantry September 16 upon being released from an England hospital where he had been receiving treatment for wounds sustained in the St. Lo action, has been reported as missing in action in Germany since December 12. His parents who reside at 1001 No. Fifth, received the government notice Friday.
Sgt. Johnson who went overseas with his unit in May graduated from Beatrice high school in 1940. (article ameneded to include mention of this soldier only)
