Platoon sergeant of 1st Plt, Co. C, 1/134 Inf, 35 Inf Div. Technical Sergeant Meint's unit was in heavy fighting south of St Lo, France (near Torigni-sur-Vire) on the afternoon of 1 Aug 1944 when they were pinned down by German machine gun fire. SGT Meints crawled around to the side of the Germans and eliminated them with hand grenades, but was fatally wounded himself. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, the nation's third highest award for gallantry in action, on 22 Apr 1945.
