Joseph Holmes Desha

U.S. Congressman, Kentucky Governor. After settling in Mason City, Kentucky in 1792, he fought in the Indian wars of 1794 and served as a Major General in the Kentucky militia during the War of 1812. He was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, (1799- 1802), a member of the Kentucky State Senate, (1803-07) and was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, (1807-19). In 1824, he was elected as a Republican the 9th Governor of Kentucky, serving until 1828. After his term, he retired to his farm until his death at age 73. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
