He was born in Utica, June 15, 1898, the son of Michael and Maria (Gentile) Gigliotti. He was educated in local schools.
On March 1, 1919, Joseph married Catherine Jones. Mrs. Gigliotti died on September 16, 1939. Mr. Gigliotti as a young man was employed as a tailor for Robert Wicks & Co. and Allen Schmidt & Pringle Co. for many years.
In 1924, he established Gigliotti's Sales & Service Co., an Appliance Store in the Utica area for many years, and retired in 1968. He then went into the electrical contracting business, retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Frances Lana. with whom he resided; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael B. Gigliotti, of Sylvan Beach, Joseph, Jr., and Rose Mary Gigliotti, of Jacksonville FL; two sisters, Rose Minutti, of Utica, and Jennie DelCorvo, of Rochester; one stepbrother, Joseph A. Gigliotti, and a stepsister, Angelina Perritano, both of Utica; three devoted grandchildren, Andrew and Barbara Laria, Robert and Katherine Giovinazzo, Frank and Barbara Belmont, of Rome; seven great-grandchildren, Anne Marie, Maria Elena, Andrea and
Anthony Laria, Shelly, Amanda and Frank Belmont. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one brother, Bernard Gigliotti; and a sister, Caroline Gigliotti. The funeral will be held Monday at 8:30 am. at The Matt Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt.
Carmel Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
