Birth: Feb. 11, 1927
Death: Jan. 28, 2008

Peter F. DeSarro, age 80, of Utica, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with his family by his side. Born in Utica on February 11, 1927, Peter was the son of the late Angelo and Margaret (Casaletta) DeSarro. Raised and educated locally, he attended St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Grammar School and graduated from T.R. Proctor High School. A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served his country in the American Theater of Operations as a Fireman First Class on numerous notable vessels. On September 16, 1950 he married the former Rose Marie Barrella with whom he shared 53 years until her passing on June 10, 2004. As partners in life, their marriage was important to them and their homestead provided a secure and comfortable sanctuary for family and friends over the years. Blessed with a loving nature, Peter was devoted to his children and grandchildren and supportive of all their activities and endeavors. Peter upheld an outstanding work ethic throughout his employment of over 30 years in the service department of the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation. During his retirement years, he enjoyed his winters in Florida and the opportunity to assist others, especially his family and church, in his role as "Mr. Fix-it". A talented carpenter, he inherited the woodworking skills of his father, helping many people with remodeling projects and improvements. He took a special interest in electronics, improving the mechanical performance of many articles and appliances, and he took pleasure and pride in his cherished train collection. A spirited New York fan, he rooted for the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. An active parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, he was supportive of parish life throughout the years by serving as a Catholic Youth Organization advisor, Mt. Carmel Little League coach, Holy Name Society member, and a ‘dependable and reliable' volunteer of the annual parish festivals. Peter is survived by his children and their families, Pat Debbold of Frankfort, John F. and Katherine DeSarro of Norwich, Mary Beth LaNeve and Richard "Rick" LaNeve, Sr., and David Debbold; his grandchildren, Jason Debbold, Colleen and Chris Thurston, Eric and Amy Debbold, Corey and Kristina Debbold, Craig Debbold, Scott Debbold, Stephanie Baird; Marie DeSarro, Peter DeSarro; Richard "Rick" LaNeve, Jr. and fiancée, Kit Fong, and Margaret "Margie" LaNeve; and his great-grandchildren, Iona Rose Thurston, Kris Marie Thurston; Jordan Lynn Debbold; and Dillon Ross Baird. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Francis J. Barrella who was also his longtime friend, and Evelyn and Roger Smith. He was fond of his retiree group of friends from Niagara Mohawk who met every Wednesday for breakfast, a bright spot in his more recent years. He was predeceased by his sisters and brother-in-law, Theresa DeSarro, and Marie R. and Louis Azzarito; and his sister-in-law, Josephine Barrella. The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Raouf A. Kodsy, a physician who made a world of difference through his guidance and compassion. Thanks also to Peter's grandson, Chris, as well as family friends, Julia Elacqua, RN and Roseann Gerace, RN who provided personal and attentive care that was a blessing to the entire family. Appreciation is also extended to Fr. John Rose for his spiritual devotion and Fr. John Flanagan for his special prayers. Visitation will be held Friday, (Today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. In recognition of Peter's admiration and regard for the spiritual community and research organizations, his children ask you to consider memorial contributions in his honor to St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish, Notre Dame High School, or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Peter's funeral service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday at 12:00 noon from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Online tributes at: www.EannaceFuneralHome.com Peter F. DeSarro

Pete, we had a good working relationship over the years. You were always doing your best for the Mt Carmel Church festivals and facilities. May you rest in eternal piece.
