Birth: Sep. 29, 1917
Death: Nov. 12, 2005

Mr. Ambrose Salamida, age 88, formerly of Utica and more recently a resident of New Hartford, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2005, at the Presbyterian Home for Central NY. Born in Alberobello, Italy on September 30, 1917, Ambrose was the son of the late Gregorio and Lorenza Salamida. Initially raised and educated in Italy, he continued his education in local schools in this area after his parents moved to the U.S. when he was 9 years old. On June 8, 1940 he was joined in marriage with the former Sylvia Scianni with whom he shared a union of 54 years prior to her passing on August 11, 1994. Mr. Salamida drove a school bus for the New Hartford Central School District for many years. He also accepted employment on the custodial staff of the Utica City School District. Always a dedicated and hard worker, Ambrose took up the study of electronics and became a licensed electrical contractor which enabled him to start his own business, Central Electric. In all of his business dealings as in his personal life, he was a man who remained true to his convictions. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Mr. Salamida is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanie and Paul Ciruzzi of Deerfield; his granddaughters, Michele Reilly of Chicago, IL, and Paula and Jeff Malecki of Cicero; his great-granddaughters, Kayleigh Reilly and Madison Reilly, both of Chicago, IL, Courtney Comenale, and Marisa Malecki, both of Cicero; and a niece, Sylvia Coyle and her husband, William, of CA. The family offers its sincere thanks to the staff of the Presbyterian Home for Central NY, especially the personnel of Willow Wing, for their care, concern, and patience. In keeping with the family's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Mr. Salamida's Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in honor of Ambrose to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., to St. Anthony of Padua Church, or to a charity of choice; envelopes will be available at the church. Entombment will take place in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
