Jack Coop Ward, 87, passed away at the Clare Bridge Home in San Antonio, Texas, January 29, 2010. He had been a resident of Houston since 1948. He was born November 4, 1922 in Mercy Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan to Altie Coop Hall and Ezra Hervy Ward, Jr. At 9 mos., the family moved to McGill and later Ely, Nevada. He graduated from White Pine Co. High School in 1940, and joined the Corps at Texas A & M to become a member of the Class of ‘44. In October of 1942, he joined the Merchant Marines and served through out WW II. He returned to A & M in the Fall of 1945 and graduated in January of 1948. He was immediately hired by Foley Bros. Dept. St. as their first executive trainee. He advanced from shoe sales to Assistant Drug Buyer to Fine Jewelry Buyer. He met Jean Odell Roesler at Foley's and they married December 31, 1948. He retired from Foley's on April 1st of 1976 and opened Gaylord's Boutique at Memorial City Mall retiring again in 1983. Jean died March 27, 1996 in Houston.
Survivors include his two sons, William R. Ward and wife Sharon, Dallas, and James S. Ward, San Antonio, and three grandchildren, Blake, Katie and Scott. He is also survived by his brother, William "Bill" H. Ward and family, Van Nuys, California.
He will be missed by all in the Ward and Roesler/Mussyal family.
