The land for this cemetery was purchased from John Hord who is buried on a knoll in front of the house.
His stone is located about 2 tenths of a mile from Hordesville at 80 River Road in a field next to Appalachian Power Office.
His grandparents, who lived in Caroline County, Va. were English immigrants that came to Virginia in 1700.
John Hord was the son of Mordecai Hord who was born in Caroline County, Va. about 1720.
Info below from Carol Schuster on 28 Aug. 2014:
Just visited John's gravestone a couple of weeks ago. It has been transplanted from another location--presumably the Hord Family Cemetery and placed next to the Hord monument on a ridge at the corner of the AEP parking lot. In back of this monument is a Civil War era slave cemetery of the Hairstons. John is not buried there, nor in the Hairston Cemetery as your Find a Grave entry states. The Hairston Cemetery is in back of Hordsville surrounded by a stone wall. I have been told that the Hord Family Cemetery is either in the meadow to the left of John's stone or else in the woods at the rear of the meadow. Perhaps you would like to search that area for more Hord gravestones?
