Ned R. Endress passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010.

Ned, also known as ''Coach'' and ''The Commissioner'' was 92 years young.

Happily married for 54 years to Eileen, who preceded him in death in 1995; he was a humble and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, coach and attorney.

He is survived by his sons, Ned II (Sandy), Terry (Gail) and Patrick, and his daughter, Susan. Also surviving him are his grandsons, Ned III, Jason (Melissa), Eric (fianc?e Jess ) and Scott; his great-grandchildren, Sarah, Jason II, Jacob, Isabella and Remy; his nephews, Mark and Stephen Fryberger; and his cousins, John and Tim Rainey and family.

Ned was a lifetime member of the Catholic church and attended Saint Mary's, Saint Joseph 's and Saint Eugene's parishes. In addition to his devotion to his family and his Church, Ned proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Armed Forces by serving in the Army.

He was a graduate of South High School, the University of Akron, and the University of Akron School of Law. Teaching and coaching students at the University of Akron and at Twinsburg High School, Saint Mary's High School, and Saint Vincent's High Schools was something dad really enjoyed. He coached basketball and assisted in coaching many other sports at these institutions. Ned was also the head football coach for a professional football team, the Akron Vulcans.

Attorney Endress enjoyed practicing law and was a member of the Akron Bar Association for more than 50 years. He was also an active member of the American, Ohio and Summit County Land Title Associations and was the CEO of the Endress Title Co. Inc. until retiring in 1996.

Ned played basketball, football, track, and baseball at South High School and the University of Akron. He was a professional basketball player in the National Basketball League, the precursor to the NBA, playing for the Cleveland Allmen Transfers and the Cleveland Rebels.

The ''Commissioner'' also participated in local sports well into his 60's playing softball and slow break basketball for the Boulevard Tavern. Rumors are that he played more for the post game camaraderie and to have a beer with his buddies.

Coach was an athlete who enjoyed all sports. He played golf with the Valley View Saturday Men's League and the Good Park Wigley Wednesday Golf League. He was a ''good golfer'' in his own mind...

Ned was a 1993 inductee into the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame. In 2002 he received the William Schlemmer Award for meritorious service; and in 2009, he was presented with the Saint Vincent-Saint Mary High School Irish Crusader Award which is given to a non alumni of the school who has contributed greatly to the school. Ned was an avid and proud supporter of the Akron community and its businesses and sports. A truly good man who cared about helping his fellow man, dad will be missed by his family and friends.

We thank the dedicated staff at the Village at Saint Edward's Nursing Home and our sister, Susan, who dearly cared for him and made his last years meaningful and enjoyable for him.

Calling hours Thursday from 4 to 8 at the Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home (810 Portage Tr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH. 44221). Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at St. Eugene's Catholic Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family suggest memorials be made to St. Vincent St. Mary's High School.
