Josephus Mason was the son of George Mason and Maria Mona Gillam, both natives of Indiana. He was born 04 Mar 1840 Jasper County, Indiana. He died at the home of his son George on 25 Jan 1917 Indiana. He enlisted in the Union Army Company G, 9th Indiana Regiment Volunteer Infantry. He was married three times (1) Hannah Elizabeth Campbell, three children: Eva, George, and William. (2) Nancy Delano Whitaker, two children: Jennie and Mary M. (3) Matilda Culp.
