Resident of Crown Point, IN, son of Orlando V. and Eliza (Flint) Servis, was born in Eagle Creek Township, Lake Co., Indiana, September 12, 1843. He enlisted in Co. E, 9th Indiana Infantry, on 9/5/1861 and served two years as a private, and was then made first sergeant of his company. At the end of his first term of enlistment, he re-enlisted on 12/12/1863 in the same company and served until the end of the war. He took part in the Siege of Corinth, Pittsburg Landing (Shiloh), Stones River and Chickamauga and was with Sherman until wounded at Pine Mountain, Georgia. He also took part in the Battles of Nashville and Franklin. He had also been wounded at Battle of Resoca, a cannon ball passing between his knees, inflicting a severe injury to his left knee. In all he served four years and two months, received his honorable discharge at Camp Stanley, Texas, and was mustered out on 9/28/1865 at Indianapolis, Ind. He was a member of Burnham Post G.A.R. at Lowell.

He was married in 1870 to Miss Nancy A. Pearce.
