E. Herman Turner
FOREST GROVE - Funeral services for E. Herman Turner, 72, were held today at Forest Grove memorial chapel (Prickett's). Concluding services and vault entombment followed at Forest View cemetery.
Mr. Turner died Monday afternoon at Forest Grove hospital, following an extended illness.
Services for Eldred Herman Turner, 72, were held Thursday at Forest Grove Memorial Chapel (Prickett's).
The Rev. Thomas P. Hilson of Untied Methodist church, Forest Grove, and the Rev. Ivan Marble of Gales Creek Community church officiated. Jean Fortune was soloist and Mrs. Hans Streitwieser organist.
Concluding services and vault entombment were at the Forest View cemetery with Al Channel, Ellis McGraw, William Bond, Cliff Evenson, Elmer Spooner and Robert Harrel pallbearers.
Honorary bearers were Guy Kalhar, Dr. R. M. Klines, Orval Hutchens and Henry Vaandering.
Mr. Turner died Dec. 8 at Forest Grove Community hospital following an extended illness. He was born in Somerset, Ky., the son of Montgomery and Vessie Turner. As a small boy he came to Banks with his parents, and his father had the first store there in 1902. He attended school in Banks and was active in the Methodist church.
During World War I, he served in the Navy and was stationed at Gulf Port, Miss. After his return from the service, he atteded business college in Spokane, Wash., and later a mechanics school in Portland.
He worked for several years as a master mechanic in Forest Grove and St. Helens, and was a traveling mechanic for Shell Oil Co., for a number of years.
His later years were spent as a parts man for both Louie Drake and Roy Thompson, and he retired several years ago.
He was married to Edith Mary Bailey, on Jan. 28, 1931 in Forest Grove, who survives.
Also surviving are sisters Flonnie Aerts of Banks and Nellie Manuel of Portland; two nephews, James Manuel of Portland and George Turner of California and one niece, Lucille Aerts Mitchell of Willamina.
