AUTOPSIES ARE PERFORMED
ON PAIR WHO DIED IN FALL
BIDDEFORD – Autopsies revealed Saturday the cause of death of two painters, who fell from a third story scaffold at 29 High Street here Thursday noon, as lung complications created by injuries from their fall.
Alfred J. Vire, 57, of 39 Foss Street, and Edouard Bernier, 74, of 70 Pioneer Avenue, Sanford, reportedly died approximately an hour apart late Friday evening at a local hospital. Both men reportedly suffered multiple fractures including spinal and rib fractures.
Mr. Bernier was born September 19, 1891 at St. Pudentienne, P.Q., son of Azaire and Malvina Metivier Bernier, and had resided in Sanford the last 43 years.
He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church, Sanford, and was a member of the Lodge of Eagles in Somersworth, NH.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rosanna Belanger Bernier; a son, Raymond Bernier and a daughter, Mrs. Frank Butler, all of Sanford; a brother John Bernier, Woonsocket, RI; three sisters, Miss Cecile Bernier, Old Orchard Beach, Mrs. Cordelia Tetreault, Rochester, NH, and Mrs. Bernadette Trcipas of Lowell, MA; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Prayers for Mr. Bernier will be said at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lafrance-Boisvert Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford, followed at 8:30 a.m. by a Requiem Mass at St. Ignatius Church there. Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery.
