Birth: unknown
Death: Sep. 24, 1864

The Daily Journal, Ogdensburg" dated Dec 28 & 29, 1864.

Kelly, Co. B, 106th Regt. N. Y. V. Infantry, a resident of this town—from the date of his capture at Cold Harbor, Va., on the first day of June, 1864, until his death in the Prisoner's Pen at Andersonville, Ga., on the 23d day of September, 1864. The note book in which these memorandums were made was brought home by a fellow-prisoner. The entries are all in pencil, and in the hand-writing of the deceased, except those of the two days preceding his death. Corporal Kelly was a fearless and noble soldier, and earnestly devoted to the cause for which his life was sacrificed. From this simple and touching record, made from day to day, in which can be found not a word of complaint, the reader can learn how deep was the misery which he suffered in common with thousands of other prisoners, how many bright hopes of release and exchange were bitterly disappointed, how brutally the poor sufferers were murdered, end with what heroic fortitude he endured these privations and cruelties, until liberated by death.
The "Uncle Isaac" of whom he. speaks is
Issac Best, Co. G, 1426 Regt, N. Y. V., a resident of Heuvelton.
June 1st, 1854—P. J. Kelly of Co. B, 106th New York Vols,, was captured by the 18th Georgia Regt. in a charge on their works at Cold Harbor, ten miles from Richmond.
June 2. -Arrived at Libby Prison; remained there on half rations until the 9th and started for Andersonville, Ga., in box cars, with one day's half rations.

I have read your Journal that you kept during you time of being a prisoner that was published in "The Daily Journal", Ogdensburg paper dated Dec 28 & 29 1864. So sad & so close you were to being released. I added it to my Homepage web site.
