Jerome C. HESTER, SR. Jerome's battle with cancer ended Palm Sunday morning April 1, 2012.
Our battle with the pain, loneliness and loss of someone so loved and adored has begun. He is at peace now in the Arms of our Lord and his beloved daughter, Regina Jolly who preceded him just three short months ago. He prayed daily for God to take him; he wanted to see his baby girl.
What a Glorious homecoming that had to be, to be welcomed, hugged and experience the overwhelming love of heaven. Jerome was born on September 1, 1936 to Millard and Lucy Hester who also preceded him in death.
He joined the Army at 17 years of age and served 3 years, 1954-1957 1½ years were spent in Korea.
He retired from the Memphis Fire Department as a Fire Marshall in the Arson Division.
He was an avid record collector and loved music, attending record conventions from Austin, TX, Birmingham, AL, Little Rock to Nashville. He developed friendships from many all over the world.
Upon moving from Memphis in 1998 to a historical home in Bolivar, TN, his interest in antiques peaked. He loved the old buildings, homes and served 4 years in APTA as Vice-President participating in restoration, fund raising, home tours and attending meetings in Nashville.
He was a member of the Historical Zoning Commission and a member of the Rotary Club.
He said so often that those were the happiest times of his life, moving to Somerville, he quickly fell in love with the town and people, especially his church, First Baptist of Somerville.
He died still trying to grasp the outpouring of love, care and concern shown during his illness and that of Regina's 2½ year battle. He loved them so much.
Forever missing him and loving him for over 54 years of marriage is his wife Dorothy (Dot); 2 sons, Joey (Cyndi) of Arlington, TN and Jason (Jenny) of Cordova; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy Hester (Amber), Justin Jolly, Jennifer Thornhill (Troy), Jaxon and Kaylee Hester; 8 great-grandchildren, J.C. and Peyton Hester, Kyndall Lee, Courtney Tackett, Mikah and Landon Jolly, Gracie and Carter Thornhill; a sister, Betty Lemmon (Elvis) of Arlington and a brother, Jerry Hester (Betty) of Memphis. Many family members he loved so and the love was returned ten-fold.
To his many, many friends, the family is touched by your love and concern for Jerome. Your visits, phone calls and offers of help will never be forgotten.
