Edward J. Baca, 78, of Hewitt, Texas, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, with his loving wife Margo Ford and daughters, Carol McDonald, Adriane and Judy Baca and Kelley Ford, at his side. Celebration of Life memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at Unity Church of Greater Waco 400 South 1st Street, Hewitt.
Ed was born in Grants, NM, to the late Eduardo and Nicanora Baca. As a child in New Mexico, Ed raised rabbits and chased wild burros. He received a Bachelor's Degree at Highlands University and a Master's Degree at the University of New Mexico. Along with being a U.S. Marine, high school teacher and athletic coach, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in Athletics at Highlands University. He joined the Peace Corps serving in Venezuela and eventually becoming the Director of the Peace Corps in Peru. Upon his return to the United States, Ed worked for the Department of Education in Seattle, WA, eventually moving to Texas and becoming the Commissioner of Education for a five-state Region where he was instrumental in advancing bilingual education. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, runner and always enjoyed a good game of "Sapo". More importantly, he was a kind and generous man, devoted to his family, and never afraid to say "I love you."
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Anne Wilson Baca; and his brother, Efren Baca.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margo Ford; daughters Carol McDonald and husband, Scott, Adriane Baca, and Judy Baca; step-children, Michael and Kelley Ford; grandchildren, Christopher and Jonathan McDonald, Cristina, Alicia and Rhiana Caterisano, Maria Pace; great-granddaughter, Vivian Araiza; Ed is also survived by his sisters, Mary Lou Griego and Rosie Chavez; brother, Alex Baca; and numerous nephews, nieces and step-grandchildren.
