Services for Helen Bisbee, 97, of Lubbock will be at 10 a.m. today in Carillon Neil Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Wolfe officiating.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Benjamin Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
She died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002.
She was born Oct. 18, 1904, in Benjamin and moved to Lubbock in 1977. She was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and received the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign with two bronze stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Overseas Service Bar, and her WAAC Ribbon.
She received a B.A. from McMurry University in Abilene and her master of education from West Texas State University. She attended the New York school of social services at Columbia University and took numerous other courses at Colorado University, SMU, Arizona and Lincoln University. She taught in school districts at Sagerton, Donna, Trent, Benjamin, Wink and Phillips and retired from teaching in 1967 to serve in the Peace Corps in Belize.
Later, she taught at Window Rock ISD and Fort Defiance, Ariz. (an Indian school).
She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church; Delta Kappa Gamma; National Retired Teachers Association; Texas State Teachers Association; Golden K. Kiwanis, Carillon Chapter; and United Methodist Women Service, for which she served as president for one year.
Survivors include a brother, James R. of Wichita Falls.
