Mildred Akin Lynes, 89, of 213 Main St., died yesterday at home. Born in New York City on Dec. 9, 1909, daughter of Albert J. and Gwendolyn Wickersham Akin, she attended the Chapin School in New York and the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa. She received a bachelor of arts degree in art history from Vassar College in 1932, and a master of arts degree at the New York University, Institute of Fine Arts in 1939. Mrs. Lynes was co-principal of the Shipley School from 1937 to 1942, and lecturer, director of activities and membership manager at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1952 until 1962. Her husband, J. Russell Lynes, whom she married in 1934 in Bedford, N.Y., died in 1991. She leaves a son, George P. Lynes II of New York; a daughter, Elizabeth I. Hollander of Providence, R.I.; three grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mildred Akin Lynes, devoted mother of George Lynes II and Elizabeth Hollander; cherished grandmother of Daniel and Rachel Hollander, and of Joshua Rady Lynes; and great-grandmother to Edith Needell Hollander.
