Martin Aikin a 21 year old native of Willsboro, served as Captain in command of a group of twenty or so young volunteers mostly in their mid to late teens. The teenage sharpshooters of "Aikin's Volunteer Rifle Company" were terribly inexperienced, but along with Clinton County and Vermont militia, harassed the British. Starting on September 4th in Chazy, they sniped at the enemy all the way back to Plattsburgh. The group was disbanded on September 12, 1814. Aikin died in 1828 and is known as one of the heros of the War of 1814.
