Robert, of 802 Taylor St., Wilmington, DE, was the son of Clarence L. and Elizabeth Truitt Barnes, and the husband of Dorothy Binder Barnes. He was "Killed in Action" while serving as a leader of a Machine Gun Squad with Co. I, 60th Inf. Reg., 9th Div., US Army. He had served in the Army for one year at the time of his death, and was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
