Axel served as a 2nd Lt., Company K, 310th Infantry, 78th Infantry Division during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on July 28, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a compositor and/o typesetter and also as Single, without dependents.

Axel was "Killed In Action" by a German sniper in the Village of Steeg, Ruhr Pocket, Germany during the war. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Like my father you were killed in action as a member of the 310th Infantry, 78th Infantry Division. He was killed March 14, 1945 and you only a few weeks later during the Ruhr Pocket Engagement. Thank you for making the supreme sacrifice for this natio...(Read more)
