He enlisted in the New York National Guard on September 16, 1940, prior to the war, in Buffalo, New York. He was noted as being employed as a welder and also as Single, without dependents.

Stanley was "Killed In Action" during the war and was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
