John Peter Corn was born in Polk County, North Carolina to Matthew Dewitt and Nellie Ellinore "Mollie" Noel Corn on 6 May 1840. He was the grandson of John Peter Corn the Revolutionary Soldier and Hannah Elizabeth Parr Corn. Being a farmer by trade, that he learned from his father. He was beneficial in helping to work the crops in his younger days. When the Civil War broke out he readily joined in 1862 and stayed until the end of the war in 1865. He was wounded at least once at Chancellorsville. Family stories stated that he was wounded twice. He married Sarah Jane Heath on Christmas Day and his new wife's birthday in 1866. Sarah Jane was from Transylvania County, North Carolina so he moved there after they married and lived there for several years. They moved from there to Buncombe County, North Carolina and lived on the French Broad River in the Big Bend Section, Alexander, Buncombe County. Their chldren were Charles LaFayette, William Thomas, James Walker, Washington Dewitt, Andrew Jacob, Toliver Watson, Furman Josiah, John Corwell and Nancy Ellen. John Peter, Sarah Jane, John Crowell, William Thomas, Toliver Watson, James Walker and respective families moved to Ivy Log, Union County Georgia in 1908. Some stayed in Georgia while others went back to North Carolina. John Peter Died in Ivy Log, Union County, Georgia on 22 September 1920.

Mr. Corn served under The Confederate States Of America.He served in Company K 16th Regiment, NC Infantry. He enlisted in Polkety, NC in April 1861. He was wounded at Chancellorsville and captured at Stanton, VA. He received Confederate pension in 1911.
