Lester A. Clark, Sr. served as a Sergeant 1st Class in Company C, 501st Airborne Infantry, Medical Battalion, United States Army.

He served in the Army during World War II and also during the Korean War.

He was originally from Marcus, West Virginia.

He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.

LESTER A. CLARK

Funeral service were held last Thursday evening for Lester Albert Clark, 48, of Connellsville, Pa., formerly of Westernport, who was killed in a one-car accident Monday, August 31, at the Durst Funeral Home in Oakland, Md., with Rev. Lawrence Sherwood, pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment was in the Gettysburg, Pa., National Military Park.

The accident occurred on Route 40 near Keyser's Ridge.

A veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, Mr. Clark had been awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, and had been on a weekend pass from a veteran's hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was also a member of Camden-On-Gauley, West Virginia, Masonic Lodge 700.

Born March 18, 1922 in Marcus, West Virginia, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Clark of Cowen, W. Va.

Besides his parents, he is also survived by his widow, Betty Jean (Rankin) Clark; three sons, Stephen and Lester A. Clark, Jr., both at home, and Johnnie Clark, Elkins; three daughters, Leslie Ann Clark, at home, and Vicki Jean and Barbara Clark, both of Elkins; two brothers, Dale Clark, Cowen, and Denzel Clark, Clarksburg; three sisters, Mrs. Mildred Starcher, Louisville, Ky.; Mrs. Geraldine Black.
