James Alfred Burgess served as a Tech Sergeant in the 29th Air Police Squadron in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

He had also served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a recipient of the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
