Deceased Name: C.E. Gallagher, retired engineer

Clayton E. Gallagher, 64, of 17 Dunhill Ave., Indian Orchard, a retired 22-year engineer fireman at Westover Air Force Base, died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital. He retired in 1987.

Born in Caribou, Maine, he had lived in Indian Orchard 50 years.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart for wounds he suffered while fighting in Okinawa in 1945.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Indian Orchard and American Legion Post 277.

He leaves his wife, the former Elizabeth J. Wilson; six sons, Edward C., Roger A., Russell I., and Steven A., all of Indian Orchard, Richard M. of Great Barrington, and Daniel of Chicopee; four daughters, Alice M. Aldrich, Dianna L. Schumk and Pamela J. Stalker, all of Springfield and Barbara A. Gallagher of Indian Orchard; his mother, Alice (Macomber) Gallagher of Indian Orchard; two brothers, Grover I. of Indian Orchard and Gerald of Belchertown; four sisters, Florence Francis and Judith Gallagher, both of Springfield, Constance Croze of Indian Orchard and Mattie Nichols of Hampden, and 24 grandchildren.

Burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
