Philippine Insurrection Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Insurrection in the Philippine Islands as a Private in Company A, 1st North Dakota Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery near San Isidro, Luzon on May 16, 1899. His citation reads "With 21 other scouts charged across a burning bridge, under heavy fire, and completely routed 600 of the enemy who were entrenched in a strongly fortified position". His Medal was awarded to him on April 4, 1906. (bio by: Gayle Alvarez)
