Son of Harry E. Mahoney and Grace Hanson Mahoney.

Samuel "Lee" served as a Technician Fifth Grade in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Cecil County, Maryland prior to the war.

Samuel enlisted in the Army on January 13, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted as being employed as a Carpenter and also as Married.

He died in the "Line Of Duty" while training as a Pilot, and serving as a co-pilot, on a TB-25 Mitchell (s/n 41-13233) in Arizona during the war.

The plane, piloted by A/C William Mahoney, crashed due to a Weather-related training accident and pilot vertigo in clouds.
