He was a whaler and a farmer. He married Maria Pereira about 1874. Manuel and Maria had eight children.
OBITUARY Manuel Joseph Barcellos, 87, one of the earliest settlers in San Luis Obispo county, died yesterday at the family home, 879 Church Street, after a lingering illness, superinduced by the infirmities of old age. He was one of the pioneers of the Arroyo Grande valley and owned and operated an extensive farm there many years, until he retired about eight years ago and came to this city to live. He was a native of the Azores Islands. He is survived by seven sons and daughters, besides the widow, as follows; Manuel Barcellos of Arroyo grande, Mrs J Enos of Santa Maria, Miss Marie Barcellos of the city, Mrs. H Hinkle of Sacramento, Frank Barcellos of this city, Mrs E M Morgan of Coalinga, Mrs F Meyers of Ventura. Funeral will be held tomorrow Wednesday morning at nine-thirty from the family residence, thence to the Mission Catholic Church, where a requiem high mass will be celebrated at ten. Interment will be held in the Catholic Cemetery.
