Son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Raymond Eklund.
Lester served as a Fire Controlman, Third Class, on the U.S.S. Capelin (SS-289), U.S. Navy during World War II.
He resided in Frewsburg, Chautauqua County, New York prior to the war.
He was declared "Missing In Action" when the Capelin was apparently either sunk by a mine or depth charges from the Japanese during the war near the Phillipine Islands. He was awarded a Purple Heart.
