John served as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner on B-24J #42-100203, 700th Bomber Squadron, 445th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Erie County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on April 21, 1943 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

John was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was hit on it's left wing by falling bombs from another plane while on a bombing run over Germany during the war.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.
