Stephen Mansfield Cameron was born August 11, 1830 in East Farnham, Quebec, Canada to Daniel and Elizabeth (Mansfield) Cameron. He worked as a lumber dealer during his lifetime. He married Mary Hoskins Taber. They were the parents of Carlisle or Carlos, Merritt Ashley, John Haskins, George Abner, Lucy Jane, and Malcolm.
He died on October 25, 1879 in East Farnham, Quebec.
From notes of Donald Cameron:
Stephen "operated a sawmill at Farnham Centre, Quebec on land near his own house. On the property of the Mill he erected a small house for his mother and father. When Stephen died tragically in his own saw mill in 1879, the whole property was lost to creditors, and his widow, Mary, moved her family to the house of her mother, Deborah H. Taber, at Adamsville. As soon as arrangements could be made (1881), Daniel and Elizabeth Cameron went to Austin, Minnesota to live on the farm of George M. Cameron, their son, at Brownsdale, Minnesota."
