Carl E. Boyd Jr., 44, Bloomington, fought a courageous battle against cancer for the last two years and succumbed to his battle at 5 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 27, 2009) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 27, 1965, in Evanston, Il. to Carl E. and Nancy Givens Boyd Sr. He married Tara D. Harpster on Aug. 22, 1998. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Adam M. Boyd, at home; his parents, Carl "Dutch" Sr. and Nancy Boyd, Benton, Ky.; one brother, Chad (Pearl Apfelbach) Boyd, Urbana; one nephew, Jonathan Gordon, Danvers; three nieces, Shelby Gordon, Danvers; and Eva Brittin and Grace Brittin, both of Downs; mother-in-law Laura Harpster, Bloomington and grandma-in-law, Louise Harpster, Bloomington.
He served as a patrol commander lieutenant for the McLean County Sheriff's Department, where he had been employed for the past 24 years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his K-9 partner, Markus.
