Lavell M. Simmons, age 87, passed away Oct. 27, 2002 at his residence in Vernal.
Lavell was born May 22, 1915 in Wellington to James Alma and Rosa Jane Bryce Simmons.
He married Laura Manwaring on Oct. 1, 1941, preceded in death July 17, 1988. Lavell later married Kay Allred.
Lavell served in the Navy as a Seaman 1st Class from 1942-1945. Injured during combat earning his Purple Heart.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Serving three full-time missions, in Whiterocks, Reno and Oakland.
Lavell attended the temple faithfully and enjoyed doing temple work. He was a life time supporter of Scouting.
Lavell was known as one of the finest brick masons. His passion was rock laying.
He was involved in the arrow head placed in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and he has many rock art work displayed around the Intermountain Area. He took great pride in his work.
Lavell enjoyed farming, horseback riding and working with his cows.
Lavell is survived by his wife Kay Allred Simmons;
children, Ronda (Theron) Clark of DeBeque, Colorado, Fen (Karin) Simmons of Kennewick, Washington, Randy (Darcy) Simmons, Greg (Dawnette) Simmons, and David Simmons all of Vernal; sisters, W. Jean Beatty and Joyce Coben.
Preceded in death by wife, Laura Manwaring; brothers, Wayne, Elwin, Scott,
and Stanley of Vernal;
sisters, Reva Marie Ruppe, Mildred Farikoff
and Wanda Lind.
Funeral services will be conducted Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Uintah Stake Center (4080 S. 2500 E.).
Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 at the Thompson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and Saturday morning at the church prior to services.
Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thompson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary with military honors provided by the American Legion Posts 124 and 11.
