Rites For Captain Finnegan
Funeral rites for Captain John R. Finnegan, who was killed in action in France February 28, 1945, were held at 9:30 a.m., last Thursday in St. Peter's church. In the Sanctuary besides Msgr. John M. Hogan, who said the mass, were Rev. George Donnelly, Port Leyden, Rev. Albert Richardson, Watertown, and Rev. Albert Cotter, of Lowville. The following Gold Star Mothers from Watertown attended the funeral: Mrs. G. Lesso, Mrs. Mabel Putnam, Mrs. Ruth Leveque, Mrs. B. Piccali and Mrs. Emma hall. Major Markey, a friend of Captain Finnegan, and who was with him on the day he was killed, and Capt. La Breche were present. Bearers were Theodore Calver, Robert Lynch, Raymond Sturtz, Loren Schoff, Robert Sunderhaft and Lyle Turek. Lowville Memorial Post American Legion, Clarke Johndrow, Commander, acted as a military escort from the home to the church and from there to Lowville Rural Cemetery, where a firing squad under command of E. J. Wolfe fired a last salute. The American Legion Axuiliary with the Auxiliary colors also attended te rites in a body.
