Birth: Dec. 29, 1939
Death: Feb. 14, 2000

Married name: Olgita Decastro Marino

Singer. A cousin of the original DeCastro Sisters, she joined the trio when Babette DeCastro retired in 1958. A cross between The Andrew Sisters and Carmen Miranda, the group was part of the Latin pop scene that was wildly popular from the 1940's until the British Invasion of the 1960's. Their act was a unique combination of singing and comedy, and they had a distinct, exotic quality that helped them sustain a long career. They sang with Tito Puente's band and appeared with Carmen Miranda and Groucho Marx in the film "Copacabana." They sustained a long recording career, with their biggest hit, "Teach Me Tonight," rocketing to #2 on the pop charts and selling 5 million copies to date. As major Las Vegas headliners, they shared the bill with Noel Coward when he made his legendary debut at the Desert Inn Hotel. They also shared the bill with George Burns when he debuted his solo act following the death of his wife, Gracie Allen, and enjoyed a long run at The Sahara with Bobby Darin. At the time, their act included a rendition of "Mack the Knife." Bobby Darin decided to record his own version of the song, which became of the the biggest hits of the era. They were a fixture on many variety shows of the 1960's, including "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Perry Como Show." As their recording career waned, they continued to be a popular draw in Las Vegas for many years.
