Eva J. Gilbert, 86, El Dorado Springs, passed away July 10, 2009, in the Stockton Nursing Home after being in declining health for several years.
Mrs. Gilbert was born July 2, 1923, near Gerster, MO to William Edward Wyatt and Lucy Jane (Terry) Wyatt.
Mrs. Gilbert was baptized at Gerster and later rededicated her life to God in 2005. Her life was dedicated to raising her children and grandchildren and she raised her granddaughter, Lisa, as her own daughter.
Ms. Gilbert was an exceptional woman to all who knew her recognized how unselfish she was. She loved everyone she met and made friends where ever she went. Eva enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends and caring for all the neighborhood pets.
The last 11 months of Mrs. Gilbert's life were spent in Stockton Nursing Home where she enjoyed socializing and joking with the staff and new friends she had made during her stay. She had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed reciting old sayings, nursery rhymes and poems and she liked to sing old songs with whoever would sing along. She will be greatly missed by all.
Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Vernon Austin and Jim Sparks; her son, James Sparks; four brothers – Leo, Odie, Ossie and Ray Wyatt; and one sister, Leona May Ketchum.
Mrs. Gilbert is survived by two daughters; four grandchildren, one & husband of El Dorado Springs; one of Bolivar; four of Carthage; three great-grandchildren one great-great-grandson; one niece of Ottawa, KS; two nephews, one El Dorado Springs & one of Osceola; four great-nephews one of San Diego, CA; two of Ottawa, KS; & one of El Dorado Springs; and many great-great nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends, including one extra special friend, and two who were thought of like a granddaughter.
Services were held Tuesday, July 14, in Bland-Hackleman Chapel, with interment followed in King's Prairie Cemetery, near Gerster, under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.
