Domestic Violence Advocate/Victim. Rachel managed to escape her abusive ex-husband and went on to remarry and build a prosperous, happy, and productive life. A huge part of that life included a personal campaign to help other victims of domestic violence by counseling, mentoring and using her personal story to inspire countless other victims. Untold lives were improved and even saved through her efforts. Rachel built a wonderful website called "Rachel's Vision of Light". She had helped so many people with her powerful message of hope and strength, and was determined to continue saving others from a life of domestic violence. Sadly, despite all she had done to escape her violent past her ex-husband tracked her down and broke in her home savagely beating her. Rachel was in ICU for 13 days before she passed away. In just one more month, she would have celebrated her 30th birthday. Her autopsy revealed she was pregnant with a boy that her and her husband, Kurt had named Christopher Nicolas Miller. Left behind to grieve her tragic passing was her loving husband, Kurt Miller, her son, Tyler and daughter, Caitlin, and also her loving siblings; two sisters and three brothers and countless friends who all miss her very much. Rachel worked tirelessly to stop domestic abuse and an award was created and named the "RACHEL Rising Angel ~ Fallen Star Award". Rachel's ex-husband was charged with only one count of first-degree murder. Due to a technicality he was not charged with the death of her unborn child. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
