Chay of Fayetteville, North Carolina was a cryptologic linguist who served as a special operations support soldier. He served as a Special Operations Team Alpha assistant team leader until his death. Chay was a native of Daegu, South Korea, and lived in New York City until he joined the Army in January 2001. Before being deployed in August 2006 to support U.S. efforts in Afghanistan, Chay had served as a team leader and squad leader with the 313th Military Intelligence Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. He is survived by his wife, Cathy, son, Jason and daughter, Kelly. He was 34.
