Wife of John Martin Manion; mother of Mabel, Viola, Edna B., Lura Goldie, Gladys, Alta P., and Roy Manion; daughter of Joseph Cyrus and Matilda Ellen (Jones) Barnes.
John Martin Manion and Edith were married on 01 March 1888 in Worth, Missouri, when Edith was only 16. Joseph wrote a note to the county clerk asking that the marriage be performed as a favor to him and to his little girl. Later, while pregnant with her third child, she and her husband took part in The Great Land Rush (also called the Running of the Cherokee Strip) into Oklahoma and staked a claim to land. They remained in Oklahoma until 1920, when they moved to Kansas. Around 1936, they returned to Oklahoma to the area from which they had moved and remained there until their deaths.
