Birth: Aug. 18, 1816
Death: Mar. 15, 1879
Atlantic City
Atlantic County
New Jersey, USA

Philadelphia Inquirer, March 17, 1879
"Mr. Joseph N. Pierson, who as stated in Friday's INQUIRER, was attacked with paralysis at Atlantic City, died at that place on Saturday morning last. Mr. Pierson was sixty-four years old. For thirteen years he was receiving teller of the Bank of Northern Liberties, and for nearly the same number of years he was cashier of the Consolidated National Bank. It was while holding this position that he was elected City Treasurer. He served the term preceding that if Joseph F. Marcer. Retiring from public life he was elected a director and ultimately president of the Northern Saving Fund, Trust and Deposit Company, which office he occupied at the time of his death. He took an active part in military matters, and was one of the oldest members of the Washington Greys. He was also connected with the First Regiment Grey Reserves, being commissioned major of that company. His name now appears on the honorary roll of the Washington Greys and the Veteran Corps of the First Regiment. Mr. Piersol was also a prominent Mason, being a member of Concordia Lodge, No. 67: of Kadosh Commandery, No. 29, and of the Grand Lodge. He was also identified with the Hiberbian Society, and was a director of the Lombard and South Street Passenger Railway Company and was one of the board of management of the Mount Farm Coal and Oil Company. In 1875 he was a candidate before the Democratic Convention at Erie for State Treasurer and received a very fair vote. Mr. Piersol was well and favorably known, and his loss will be deeply deplored by a large circle of acquaintances."

Philadelphia Inquirer, March 17, 1879
...He was the son of William Piersol, a resident of the old Spring Garden district....
