Wife of James Wixson. Daughter of Revolutionary War Patriot John Rollins of New Hampshire, and Mary Jones.
DAR Real Daughter
Mrs. Lydia Wixson, the oldest woman in Augusta and with one exception the last real daughter of the American Revolution in Maine, passed away Saturday at the home of Miss Gertude A. Choate at 167 Northern Avenue, aged 101 years and eight months. The immediate surviving relatives are a son, George F. Wixson of Sidney and a daughter, Mrs. Albert H. Mackle of Brockton, Mass.
Mrs. Wixson was born in Wiscasset and was the daughter of John Rollins, who served on Gen. George Washington's personal body guard. Her parents moved to Augusta when she was but a few months old. She lived for a few years in Massachusetts and also for some years in Sidney. She often related the stories and incidents her father had told her of Gen. Washington.
At the age of 18 years she was married to James Wixson, a North Augusta farmer. In 1890 they moved to East Bridgewater, Mass., and there Mr. Wixson died during the same year. Mrs. Wixson then returned to Augusta and had remained here since.
She was an honored member of Koussinoc Chapter D.A.R., of the city and had figured in many of its receptions.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o'clock Monday afternoon from 167 Northern Avenue.
Obit from the Kennebec Journal dated May 6, 1918.
Her grave is just inside the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, near the road that separates this cemetery from the Bien Venue Cemetery.
