Wm B Noel
In Memoriam

Died, at his home in Lancaster, Ky., Jan 10, 1888, Wm. B. Noel, in the seventy-second year of his age.

"Alas! he is gone;
There are hearts on whose innermost altar
There's nothing but ashes to-night;
There are voices whose tones sadly falter,
And dim eyes that shrink from the light."

For the father is no longer in the circle. He has passed over the death river and entered the haven of rest. Never again will his famiiar face cheer the family fireside. Only those who have walked in the valley of shadows, and folded the pale hands over the breast of some loved one can understand the agony of soul of those who remain on this shore, and know with what utter despair they bow to the will of God. We know full well he was prepared to go; yea, his constant prayer was that the Lord would take him home. He has been an invalid for a number of years, and the last two years has suffered from paralysis, having lain in bed for the past seven weeks almost helpless. He connected himself with the First Presbyterian church in Danville when only sixteen years of age, and has been a consistant member ever since; loved to go to church, and as long as able was found in his accustomed place in the sanctuary. All who knew him attested to his honesty and uprightness. No fault can be found with any of his dealings with his fellowmen.
'Twas a sore trial, dear father, for them to give you up, and yet as we look upon your death we know 'twas God that did it, and know "He doeth all things well." To-night is the first time the Sabbath stars have looked down upon his dear grave, too lately made for time's busy fingers to have beautified. O God draw near to them to-night and touch their wounds with Thy healing fingers and repeat again that blessed sentence that passed Thy lips over eighteen hundred years ago: "Come unto me all that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."
