George P. Alessio Sr., 86, of Baldwinsville, passed away April 3, 2008 at Crouse Hospital. He was born September 10, 1921 in Piffard, NY, one of eight children born to Giorgio and Giorgetta (Pisaro) Alessio. He was a graduate of York Central H.S. in 1939 and went onto study Aeronautical Engineering. George was a combat army veteran of WWII and served with the First Army 106th (Golden Lions) Division 592nd Field Artillery Battalion Service Company. He participated in the European Theater of Operations in Northern France, Ardennes Forest, Central Europe and the Rhineland. George was awarded four Battle Stars as well as "The Good Conduct Medal" given for exemplary service. George was founder, owner, and operator of Raynor Overhead Door Sales, Inc. of Syracuse and Watertown, NY. He was predeceased by his sister, Louise Alianell of Piffard, NY; brothers, Thomas (Alessio) Allison and Rodney Alessio of Rochester, NY, Francis (Alessio) Allison of San Rafael, CA. George married Dorothy Sierson in Utica, NY, a marriage that lasted over 60 years. George was a devout Roman Catholic. He is survived by his beloved family, wife, Dorothy of Baldwinsville; daughter, Christine (William) Cross of Baldwinsville; sons, George P. Jr. (Adele) of Liverpool, David of Baldwinsville; daughter, Mary (Richard) Burzynski of Baldwinsville and daughter-in-law, Maureen of Baldwinsville; grandchildren, Lauren, Theresa, Diana and Gino Alessio and Jayson and Allyson Burzynski. He is also survived by sister, Agnes Bonacquisti of Mt. Morris, NY; brother, James (Phyllis) of Seneca Falls, NY and Ronald (Linda) of Cato, NY; sisters-in-law, Jessica Allison of Henrietta, NY, Patricia Alessio of Esterio, FL; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. George enjoyed his summers at his cottage in Seeley's Bay, Ontario, Canada where he spent many nights bass fishing with the gang. He was a lifelong Yankee fan. The Alessio family would like to thank the entire staff of the ICU at Crouse for his wonderful care.
