"Mr. Churchill formed an irregular union with Lan Sui Lin, a native Chinese girl, at Fuchow, where he was engaged in business. Of this union were born four children; Wilhelmina, born Sept. 9, 1891; Caroline, born Aug. 18, 1892; Thomas, born July 27, 1894; and Alice May, born June 4, 1896. All are living. After removing to Tientsin, he married this woman, Lan Sui Lin, in the presence of James W. Ragsdale, American Consul General, on March 29, 1906, Rev. C.A. Stanley performing the ceremony. Marriage recorded on page 96, Miscellaneous Record Book No. 1, Tinetsin Consulate General.
An odd footnote on the Report of Deaths of American Citizens Abroad, but it may be the first record of birth and citizenship for the children listed.
Son of Mrs. Abigail H. (Churchill) Bates; and grandson of Sylvanius Churchill and Elizbeth H. Churchill.
Died of acute liver inflammation.
