"Funeral services for Jo Spradlin Thomason, age 81, of Brownwood, were at 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 18, 2014, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Michael Light officiated the services. Burial followed in the Brown Ranch Cemetery in Coleman County. The family received friends at the funeral home prior to the service.

"Mrs. Thomason died Friday, August 15, 2014, at her home in Brownwood.

"Wanda JoDean "Jo" Spradlin Thomason was born in Coleman to Jessie and Jennie (Field) Owen on September 30, 1932. She attended Coleman schools where she was involved in the homemaking program and was a member of the honor society.

"She married Billy Gene Spradlin on January 5, 1950, and later moved to Lubbock, where they lived for 30 years. They had two daughters, Deborah Gayle and Laurie Lynn and a son, Stephen Dale.

"Jo was employed by the City of Lubbock at Meadowbrook Golf Course and, later, owned the snack bar and practice range at the golf course. The Spradlin's were in business in Lubbock until moving to Lake Brownwood in 1983. Shortly after moving to Brownwood, she was employed at CARE Nursing Center as an Administrative Assistant until retiring in 1991 due to health reasons. She later became active in the volunteer program for the State of Texas known as the Ombudsman program, visiting nursing homes and helping the residents in any way needed.

"Bill passed away in 2003, after nearly 54 years of marriage. Jo married Walter Thomason on September 10, 2005, and they made their home in Brownwood. Her daughter, Laurie, also resided with them.

"Jo was an active member of the Church of Christ.

"Jo is survived by her husband, Walter Thomason of Brownwood; two daughters Deborah Bean and husband, Paul, of Lubbock, and Laurie Spradlin of Brownwood; Grandson Kurt Bean of Austin, Special grandchildren, George Bean of Ft. Worth, Cassandra Beach of San Angelo, and Catrina Hall of Arlington; stepdaughter, Jana Jackson and husband, Dennis, of Bangs; Vanessa Payne and husband, Joel, of Abilene; Stepsons, Walter, Jr., and wife, Sophia, of California; Phillip and wife, Julieanna, of California, Eddie and wife, Lori, of Houston, Charles and wife, Rebecca, of Wichita Falls, David and wife, Jeanette, of Azle; brother, George Owen and wife, Sharen, of Snellville, Georgia; sister, Charmel Camp and husband, Dale, of Hot Springs, Ark., numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, cousins, brothers- in-law and sisters-in-law.

"Jo was preceded in death by the father of her children, Bill Spradlin, a son-Stephen Dale, and her parents.

"The family requests memorials be made to: The Children's Home of Lubbock, P.O. Box 2824, Lubbock, Texas 79408."
