James Connelly Chilton Times (Wisconsin) January 14, 1904

James Connelly, aged 68 years, died Dec. 28, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Bender, of Fremont. Mr. Connelly was brought to Fremont from St. Joseph's hospital, Omaha, where he had been under treatment for cancer of the stomach.
The deceased is survived by a wife, ten children, forty-one grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Owen Wade of Norfolk, Neb.
James Connelly was born in Roscommon County, Ireland, Sept. 16, 1836. He came to Providence, R. I., with his parents in 1846, and from there to Calumet County
in 1850. On Nov. 14, 1859 he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Higgins.
In 1864 he enlisted in the Fourth Wisconsin Cavalry and served through the war.
In 1870 he moved to Olwien, Ia., and from there he came to Nebraska, settling on a farm in Madison County where he lived until 1894, when he retired and moved to the city of Norfolk. He resided there until October 1904, when he moved to Fremont. During life Mr. Connelly was a devout member of the Catholic Church.
Services were held at St. Patrick's church in Fremont Friday morning. The remains, accompanied by his family, were taken to Tilden for burial. After short funeral services, conducted by Father Walsh at St. Mary's church, Tilden, the remains, followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends from Norfolk, Battle Creek and Tilden, were taken to the cemetery southwest of the
town where the last rites were performed. -- Battle Creek, (Neb) Enterprise

James Connelly was a brother of the late Michael Connelly of this place. (Chilton, Wis.) He was known to all the early settlers, by whom his death will be regretted. Mrs. Thos. Flatley and Mrs. Luke Owens of this city are nieces of the deceased.
