Born Dora Mae Stephens, on February 29, 1916, to the late Jesse and Lillian Stephens in Danbury, N.C., Mrs. Maness was a devoted member of Lebanon Baptist Ministries. She wed Shirley Hughes Maness on December 12, 1944, and produced one son, Dennis Hughes Maness, who survives her along with his wife, Donna Walker Manes.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Maness was preceded in death by her only grandson, Steven Randall Landreth; her sister, Pearlie Stephens Mabe; and three brothers, Noel, Lemuel, and Henry Stephens.
Though Mrs. Maness's immediate family was very small, she leaves behind numerous nieces and a nephew, whom she dearly loved, especially Lucille Mabe Harris.
Mrs. Maness's son, Dennis and his wife, Donna would like to express their sincere appreciation to the members of Lebanon Baptist Ministries for their faithfulness to her care over the past few years. Special thanks to members Janet Highfill, Paula Adams, and Helen Meachum. Published in News Record on March 5, 2008 (edited)
