Mayor of Gallatin 1980-1982
Bob Rogers passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the Daviess County Nursing and Rehab due to complications after a hip fracture.
Services were held Monday, May 3, at 1p.m., McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin. Family visitation was held on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery near Gallatin with full Military Rites.
Bob was born February 16, 1932 to George and Flora (Mitchell) Rogers in Chicago, Ill.
Bob was mayor of Gallatin from 1980-82, when he oversaw renovations of the Fire Station, City Hall and the re-pavement of several Gallatin streets. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Bob was the past proprietor of several Gallatin businesses, including Shakey's Place, Spuds Tavern, and the Southside Tavern.
Bob was a resident of Gallatin. He is survived by 9 children, George R. (Rob) Rogers, III of Munster, Ind., Susan Kohler of Chicago, Ill., Fr. Vincent Rogers of Trenton, Mo., Lainie Mercurio of Chicago, Ill., Tracy Fritz of Chicago, Ill., Dr. Lee Rogers of Los Angeles, Calif., Anne Martin of Wamego, Kans., Katie Rutledge of Bloomington, Ill., Nicholas Rogers of St. Louis, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Carol Turnquist of Chicago, Ill. and her two children. Bob's quote from his memorial folder and song requested at his funeral was "I did it my way".
