Theresa's early years were marked by tragedy that began with an accidental Christmas tree fire in 1933 that took the life of her 5-year old sister Helen; the birth of an out-of-wedlock child who was given up for adoption circa 1934-35; the permanent estrangement from her parents upon her release at age 18 from a Catholic home for unwed mothers; followed by several years of surviving on her own.
Theresa was married twice. First, in a civil ceremony in 1943, to Leonard Lawrence Miller (birth name Leon Kepa, aka Kempa) (1908-1974), with whom she had two boys. When the children were toddlers, she left Leonard Miller for Andrew Richard Boras. He was a returning Navy veteran of World War II. They were married in the Roman Catholic Church in 1949 and he adopted her sons. Their surnames were changed from Miller to Boras in December 1950.
Theresa and Andy had a long and happy marriage of 39 years. She is remembered by her sons and grandsons as a loving mother and grandmother. Theresa was publicly commended for her volunteer work with young children and the elderly.
Descendants include two sons, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Surname "Boras" in this family is not the original spelling. It was "Basarab", as is seen in an early family tombstone in Lykens, Pennsylvania. Theresa's father-in-law, Andrew Basarab, simplified it soon after he emigrated from Hungary in the early 20th century.
